Editor's Note: This unique Eisenhower Dollar struck on a feeder finger was submitted to PCGS for authentication, grading and encapsulation. It is featured in a GreatCollections auction on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
From the GreatCollections listing:
1972-D Eisenhower Dollar Struck on Feeder Finger
The Most Spectacular Ike Dollar Struck in Denver.
The error occurred when the die struck multiple items outside of the restraining collar, and at some point in the striking of it, a feeder finger ( which feeds the unstruck planchets into the striking collar) was overextended, and was struck *onto* the clad dollar.
According to error specialist Fred Weinberg, this is the only Eisenhower Dollar known with a full obverse (or reverse) image of Eisenhower struck on a feeder finger, and it is bonded onto a previously major mint error struck coin, in addition to it being the largest Ike dollar error coin known.
This is the first time it is appearing on the market, after the Centennial consignor added it to his Colorado collection over 15 years ago.
