Bringing the latest mint error news to the collector. Also featuring Die Trials, Patterns, Test Pieces, Numismatic Rarities, Currency Errors and Discoveries from the U.S. Mint.
The Greysheet™ publication issues the quarterly CAC® Rare Coin Market Review. It is a retail price guide for collectors, investors and dealers.
Their latest issue announces that CACG is authenticating and certifying major mint errors. Featured on the cover is an extremely rare 1944 Lincoln Cent with an obverse mirror brockage, designated AU 50 BN by CACG.
Recently, a 1943 Lincoln Cent obverse mirror brockage (PCGS MS 63) sold in a Stack's Bowers auction for a record price of $31,200 (lot # 4410). This similar 1944 mint error was likely selected for the cover since Lincoln Cent Wheat Reverse errors are widely collected. Additionally, a Wheat Reverse type obverse mirror brockage dated 1944 is considered one of the important dates in the Lincoln Cent series for mint errors. This mint error combines rarity, popularity and history since it was struck during World War II. It was the perfect error to showcase that CACG is now authenticating and certifying major mint errors.
