Here we are in August 2009, already. The ANA Convention in LA is just a few days away. All the indicators look for this to be a terrific show in all Numismatic categories, including Error Coins.
As the convention winds down and the reports start coming in, we expect to hear very positive reports for the hobby.
Many dealers of Errors will have tables and will be walking the floor selling and buying interesting Error Coins.
How is the Error Coin Market? Well, let me just say it shows great signs of strength in ALL areas. Many areas even show great growth, like better Nickel on Cents with full dates, unusual pieces and Early Type Major Errors. Only one area is a real bargain: common date Double Denomination 11¢, Lincoln 1¢ struck on a struck Dime. These have been getting cheaper and cheaper and we feel they have hit bottom as far as price goes. Prices have been in the $550 - $700 range, compared to $1,000+ two years ago. Now would be a great time to buy some for stock or your collection as they’re nearly as cheap as other off metals that are NOT Double Denominations. But for how much longer? We feel this is the bottom and they can only go up in price.
