Editor's Note: One of our readers wanted to share this exciting transitional mint error.
This is the rarest type of U.S. transitional off metal mint error. It is a 1968-D Lincoln cent struck on a SILVER dime planchet.
Silver dime blanks were produced for 1964 Roosevelt dimes and were struck thru 1966. There are a few known 1965 silver dime transitionals but discovering a Lincoln cent a few years later that was struck on a silver dime is very exciting.
PCGS certified this mint error as genuine damage XF detail but it is still an appealing and attractive mint error. It was featured in the monthly Coin World April 2021 edition, page 148, by Mike Diamond.
