Although there are approximately 30 obverse and reverse die caps known in the State Quarter series, this one is as spectacular and dramatic as any that I have handled. The die cap is so deep and the "exit strike" is at such an angle creating a shape like a baseball-cap that NGC encapsulated it in a double-thickness holder. The reverse has an incuse brockage which created counterbrockages when striking the obverse of blanks being fed by the feeder fingers into the collar. The "exit strike" is 65% off-center, which forced the deep die cap to dislodge from being wrapped around the die.
Die Caps are featured in the NLG award
winning book, World's Greatest Mint Errors.
