Jefferson Nickel With 56% Curved Clip - Uniface Reverse

obvspacerev

indentPlanchet error coins with a large clip are highly prized. An error with a curved clip in combination with a full uniface striking error is especially exciting. In my experience they are super rare to find. The odds of this happening are very slim. Since I added this one to my collection over 20 years ago I've not seen another like it on any other U.S. denomination or foreign coin.

indentThis nickel curved clip planchet found its way into the striking chamber with a normal sized nickel planchet lying directly beneath it. The result was a die struck Jefferson nickel obverse with a uniface reverse. The planchet lying beneath would have sustained a large curved indent.

indentGraded and encapsulated MS67 by NGC, it is described as a 50% curved clip, weight 2.2 grams, uniface reverse. By weight it is actually a 56% curved clip with a uniface reverse!
