Although described as a broadstruck brockage, this 1873 Seated Half Dollar is actually an obverse die cap. It is the size of a Morgan Dollar. The reverse has a brockage depicting the obverse design. This cap struck so many blanks that the reverse brockage expanded to the size of a dollar.
Major mint errors in the Seated Half Dollar series are extremely rare. This die cap is also dated 1873 with arrows which makes it that much more incredible. This is the only known Seated Half Dollar die cap.
