PCGS Certifies 1887 Morgan Dollar Struck 55% Off-Center With a Brockage Reverse MS 63
These images were taken prior to it being submitted to PCGS
This amazing off-center Morgan Dollar with a brockage reverse was previously unknown to the numismatic community. It had been put away for decades and just now surfaced. PCGS authenticated and certified it as being struck 55% off-center with a brockage reverse, and graded it Mint State 63.
It is very dramatic, with the off-center portion being at 12:00, but still showing much of Liberty's head. The reverse depicts the exact design as the obverse but incuse, which is referred to as a brockage.
Some comparable examples of off-center Morgan Dollars that I've previously handled are a 1921-S that was struck 45% off-center, certified MS 63 by NGC and a Morgan Dollar struck 20% Off-Center with a brockage reverse that was certified VG 10 by PCGS. Another example was in the Fred Weinberg Collection and is a 1880-S Morgan Dollar struck 40% off-center and certified MS 63 by PCGS.

Struck 45% Off-Center
NGC MS 63
This is one of the furthest off-center Morgan Dollars known. Even though the date (1921) does not show, the S Mint Mark is on the reverse and this die pair was used to strike 1921-S Morgan Dollars.
Off-center Morgan Dollars are scarce but not rare when they are struck slightly off-center in mint state or 10% to 20% off-center in circulated condition. To have one this far off-center and in choice mint state condition is unbelievable.
This is a very famous major mint error and has been known to the mint error specialists in the numismatic community for over forty years. I placed this off-center mint error in a collection of the finest Morgan Dollars.

This off-center brockage Morgan Dollar was originally in the Harrison Phillips Collection auctioned by Bowers & Merena at the 2003 ANA in Baltimore. This is a spectacular major mint error in the Morgan Dollar series.
Since it is quite circulated it was obviously carried as a pocket piece and it is amazing that it survived. Because of its size and dramatic appearance, it was the favorite of many mint error collectors and will be talked about for years to come. I placed this off-center mint error in a collection of the finest Morgan Dollars.
