The cover of Mint Error News Magazine Issue 23 featured the only known U.S. Proof coin on any denomination that was struck on an elliptical planchet. It was a 2007 Utah State Quarter and was authenticated and certified PR 66 by PCGS.
Unbelievably, a second known U.S. proof coin struck on an elliptical planchet has been discovered. It is a proof Jefferson Presidential Dollar weighing 7.4 grams and was authenticated and certified Proof 69 by NGC.
There are not even any SBA, Sacagawea or Presidential Dollars known that were struck for circulation and also struck on elliptical planchets, making this proof elliptical Presidential Dollar an exciting discovery.
