Extremely Rare 2020-P Salt River Bay National Park Quarter Double Struck Mint Error
All major mint errors in the National Park Quarter Series are extremely rare. This Salt River Bay National Park Quarter is double struck. It was authenticated and certified by PCGS as MS 64.
Many collectors and dealers do not realize that since 2020, there are only 2 known off-metal mint errors on any U.S. denomination. Additionally, there are only a few major striking errors (such as off-centers, double strikes, and brockages) known on U.S. coins since 2020.
Many experts were consulted and auction records researched, resulting in only a few major striking errors appearing on any denomination since 2020.
The 2020 Salt River Bay quarter commemorates the U.S. Virgin Islands national site as part of the America the Beautiful Quarters® Program. It features a red mangrove tree on the reverse and Washington's portrait on the obverse. The first strike was slightly off center and out of the collar. The second strike was seated properly and obliterated almost all of the original first strike. On the reverse, part of BAY and E PLURIBUS UNUM are still visible from the first strike.
This double struck 2020 Salt River Bay National Park Quarter is a rarity among the few major mint errors of this decade.
