1853 $1 U.S. Gold Type 1 Broadstruck and Partial Collar
This is the only known broadstruck Type 1 $1 Gold Piece. It is difficult to view this broadstruck mint error since it is certified. The holder makes it difficult to see the expanded planchet and the edge, since it was struck out of the collar. It is also a partial collar since there is a small section of reeding visible. This error is very dramatic because it also has a cupped shape. All U.S. gold major mint errors are very scarce.
