This is a unique Liberia gold $5 pattern featuring James Monroe from their Presidential Series. This gold pattern was authenticated and certified by NGC and to date, it is the only known gold coin or gold pattern from the Liberia Presidential Series. It has a different obverse portrait of President Monroe, while the reverse depicts the Millennium design that was used on other Liberia coins instead of the Presidential Series design found on the regular Cu-Ni coins.
The Liberia Presidential Series was struck in Copper-Nickel with a weight of 11.22 grams and is designated KM# 914. These were non-circulating coins with a composition of 75% copper and 25% nickel with a diameter of 31.5 mm.
In 2000, the Royal Mint in England struck several different designs in the $100 denomination struck in gold. They had a purity of .999 gold with a weight of 1 troy oz and a diameter or 35 mm.
